Career Background

A consensus four-star recruit and the top player in the state of Utah out of Timpview High School, Fano stayed home to play for the Utah Utes. He started 12 games as a true freshman in 2023 at left tackle and became a three-year starter (35 career starts). In 2025, he made history as the first offensive player in Utah program history to earn Unanimous All-American honors, won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top lineman, and was named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and Polynesian College Football Player of the Year.

Fano is widely regarded as a high-character leader with a clean off-field record and no arrests or known issues. Head coach Kyle Whittingham has repeatedly praised his leadership, toughness, relentless work ethic, and blue-collar mentality. He has been active in team community service initiatives throughout his career and is viewed as the embodiment of Utah football culture. Fano declared for the 2026 NFL Draft after his standout junior season.

Scouting Report Summary

Fano is widely regarded as the top offensive tackle prospect (and often top overall offensive lineman) in the 2026 class. He brings rare technical polish, fluid movement skills, and a relentless motor that translate to high-floor, immediate NFL impact. On film, he excels in zone and gap schemes with outstanding lateral agility, recovery ability, and consistent hand placement. He processes stunts/blitzes cleanly, sustains blocks through the whistle, and finishes with violence.

Strengths

•  Elite athleticism and change-of-direction (evident in 97th-percentile 40, 93rd-percentile 3-cone, and elite 10-split) — allows seamless mirroring in pass pro and pulling/trapping in the run game.

•  Technical savant in the run game: Best-in-class pad level, leverage, and drive-block consistency; creates momentum on double teams and climbs to the second level effortlessly.

•  High football IQ and competitiveness — rarely beaten clean; excellent at passing off twists and maintaining pocket integrity (0 sacks allowed in 2025).

•  Positional versatility potential (right tackle floor; center/guard upside shown at Combine).

Weaknesses

•  Shorter-than-ideal arm length (8th percentile) and hand size (9th percentile) limits length in pass pro against elite edge speed and may cap him as a true offensive tackle for some teams. Has to rely heavily on athletic traits and technique to win off the edge

•  Leaner build (37th-percentile weight) raises questions about consistent power/anchor against NFL bull rushers and 300+ lb interior defenders in the run game, especially if moved to guard.

•  Occasionally over-relies on quickness vs. raw strength in contested blocks. Likely best suited for zone run concepts that take advantage of athleticism over power.

Final Evaluation

Ideal for zone-heavy or outside-zone schemes that can take advantage of Fano’s elite athleticism and technical refinement. He possesses legitimate Day-1 starter potential at right tackle or guard. While some teams may still project him outside, his shorter arms and leaner frame suggest a more natural long-term fit at guard. Fano is a high-floor prospect with Pro Bowl and All-Pro upside once he adds functional mass and strength. As one of the safest and most polished offensive line prospects in the 2026 class, he is expected to be one of the first linemen selected — potentially inside the top 15 picks.
